Get Wet Latex Fresh paint From Carpet

A wet/dry vacuum pulls dirt and paint residue out of carpets.

If you've spilled latex paint on your carpet, don't panic. Wet paint is actually much easier to get out of carpeting than dry paint. Latex paint bonds well to carpet fibers and resists removal efforts when it's dry. Trying to remove wet latex paint may not work 100 percent, but you should be able to wipe away most of the stain. It is important to lay down newspapers or draping while using paint around carpets.

Instructions

1. Blot the excess paint from the carpet, using a clean, dry cotton cloth. Do not wipe or rub it in, or the paint will dig deeper into the carpet fibers.

2. Blot the stain again with a clean, damp cotton cloth. Work from the outside of the stain toward the center.

3. Mix 1 cup of lukewarm water with 1 tsp. of dishwashing liquid. Dip a clean cotton cloth into the mixture and blot the stain again, working from the inside out.

4. Dip a clean cotton cloth into some pure mineral spirits and blot the stain again. Mineral spirits are used to thin paint and remove it from canvases and other objects. Do not soak the cloth with mineral spirits; you only want the cloth to be damp. Blot the latex paint stain again and try to remove the rest of the stain.

5. Pour some fresh water over the stain and suck up the moisture with a wet/dry vacuum. The vacuum will get rid of any leftover mineral spirits, water, soap and latex.
