Property prices vary across Europe.
The price of property in Europe varies by country. Because most of Europe uses the euro as currency, with the exception of the United Kingdom, which still uses pounds sterling, property prices are always advertised in euros.
Spain, Portugal, France and United Kingdom
In Europe, prices for property are devised using a process of charging per square meter of property. In Spain, the average price per square meter in September 2010 was €1,849, 0.91 percent lower than the previous quarter for the year. In Portugal the average cost per square meter is €1,491. France's average is €2,386 per square meter, but that average is skewed because Paris bumps the average up by its own figure of €6,430 per square meter. The UK is one of the most expensive places to live with an average price in September 2010 of f165,596, which is equal to €194,786, maing it the highest average in Europe.
Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark and Netherlands
In Belgium the prices are per house and the average is €177,204. In Luxembourg the average is twofold, based on houses and apartments, and the average is €455,275. Denmark shows an average of €2,445 per square meter, and the Netherlands has an average of €226,894. These prices were all as of September 2010.
Eastern Europe
Eastern European countries such as Croatia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Slovenia are all still trying to grow their property markets. The average overall price in those countries was approximately €142,682 in September 2010, but figures for each country are not always available.
