Fresh paint Within A Grill

An old barbecue grill can be used for an assortment of craft projects. Separating the big metallic drum and hood at the hinges offers you two flower pots, two backdrops to a puppet show, two bases for an exterior water wall, and more. Painting the inside of the barbecue grill lets you change the look and feel of the original material so it can be used in more projects. Of course, you shouldn't paint the inside of the grill while still using the grill as a barbecue, because the heat will release paint chemicals into your food.

Instructions

1. Remove the handle--if there is one--on your barbecue grill by pulling it out of its tabs on the grill hood or unscrewing any brackets that hold it in place.

2. Open the hood. Twist off the fly nuts, and remove the screws that hold the hinge brackets in place. Close the hood again, and remove the screws from the side of the drum that hold the rest of the hinge hardware. Pull off the hood from the drum, and set the grill itself aside.

3. Thoroughly dust the inside and outside of the grill if it needs it, and scour the surface with rust removal solution. Let the solution sit according to the instructions, then scour again. Take your time with this part, because the inside of the grill will be very dirty, even if you used it only occasionally.

4. Wash the hood and drum with a cleaning solution, and rinse with water. Dry with your rag.

5. Paint on the metal primer and let it dry. Paint another layer if any metal still shows through. Paint with your exterior-grade paint any designs or patterns you wish. For example, paint a night sky with white stars as a backdrop to a small puppet theater, or paint the numbers of your home address if you wish to set out the drum or hood in you lawn as a welcome sign.
