Get Acrylic Fresh paint From Aluminum

Over time, acrylic paint will become worn or may chip on items such as the aluminum siding on your house. You may wish to remove it, whether because it is unsightly or you simply want to repaint your home. Depending on the amount of paint you need to remove from the aluminum, you have options regarding accomplish the task.


Instructions


Chemicals


1. Select an acrylic paint removal specifically manufactured to get acrylic paint off of aluminum. Pay special attention to the warning label on the product to ensure that it is safe to use in the area where you plan to remove the paint.


2. Use a sponge or brush to apply the chemical to the aluminum surface. Be sure to wear rubber gloves that are safe for strong chemical use. Apply the chemical to the surface evenly and take care not to cake it on. Using excessive amounts will not remove the paint faster and may ultimately damage the surface.


3. Allow the chemicals to sit on the surface for the amount of time recommended by the manufacturer of the paint removal solution. Check the product's packaging to see how long it should remain on the surface.


4. Use a damp cloth to wipe the solution and the paint off of the surface. If you see that there is still paint on the surface, you may need to reapply the chemicals and repeat the process. This is especially true if there is more than one coat of paint on the surface.


5. Using a rag, clean the surface thoroughly with warm water to ensure that you have removed all of the chemicals.


Power Washing


6. Hook up your power washer as per the manufacturer's instructions.


7. Using a brush, spray can or rag, apply the manufacturer's recommended solvent to the surface, on top of the acrylic paint. Allow the solvent to dry or become absorbed into the paint.


8. Wear safety goggles and/or gloves to protect yourself from the spray emitted by the power washer.


9. Set the power washer to the widest spray stream to begin, as the spray will be very heavy and hard to control at other settings, especially if you have never done this before.


10. Evenly spray the aluminum surface with the power washer, adjusting the power washer spray as needed to remove the acrylic paint.
