Remove Gutters From The House With Vinyl Siding

Don't be intimidated because you have to climb a ladder and use a hammer. Removing gutters yourself can save you some money. Whether you are having new gutters installed or just want to make a repair yourself, you can do the job without having to pay a professional.

Instructions

1. Position ladder under a downspout and check to see if downspout is attached with rivets or screws. Check the gutter trough to see if it is attached with hangers and screws or nails and spacers.

2. Detach the downspout elbow where it attaches to the gutter trough either by removing the screws or drilling out the rivets. Remove the screws or rivets from the downspout attachment straps. The whole downspout assembly can now be removed and placed aside.

3. Remove the screw or nail that is holding the downspout attachment strap to the vinyl siding. Be careful not to damage the vinyl siding.

4. Position ladder under gutter trough attachment points. Use the cordless drill or the hammer and pry bar to remove the screws and hangers. Sometimes metal straps are used to attach the gutter trough. Using the metal snips, cut the strap from the gutter and remove the strap from under the shingle.

5. Remove the gutter trough from the house, being careful not to damage or mar the vinyl siding. Now that the guttering is on the ground, cut it into smaller pieces using the hacksaw.

6. Insert the tube of caulk into the caulking gun and fill in each one of the holes in the vinyl siding. Smooth the caulk so that it is level with the surface of the vinyl siding. After the caulking has dried, touch up the caulk with paint that matches the vinyl color.
