Fresh paint The Leading Steps

The front steps may match or contrast a home's exterior appearance.

A fresh coat of paint gives new life to an old set of stairs. Painting the stairs on the front or even the rear or side of a home can add a finishing touch to the overall appearance. Whether in prominent view or barely visible from the street, visitors to the home will at some point encounter the stairs. Use the right process to leave the best impression possible.

Instructions

1. Select the appropriate stripper for the steps. The choice will depend on whether the steps are concrete or wood. Apply with a paint brush and allow to bubble. Wait the manufacturer's suggested time.

2. Scrape away the old finish using a hand scraper or sandpaper. Leave the surface smooth and free of old finish.

3. Apply a sealant. Whether concrete or wood, apply the appropriate sealant to the area. Brush on the sealant and allow it to dry for at least 24 hours.

4. Paint the steps using an exterior paint. Select an exterior paint to match or contrast with the exterior of the house.
