Bathroom Suggestions For Males

Design a bathroom with a man in mind.

Some may think that a bathroom is most often feminine territory. However, that does not have to be the case. A bathroom can become a "man room" when you incorporate the right ideas and man-friendly accouterments. Make grooming tools accessible. Display everyday items as if they are works of art.

Colors

Stay away from pastel colors and floral prints. Instead, go for neutral colors or darker colors like brown, grey, black and navy. Minimize, if not totally eliminate, the temptation to use wallpapers and floral borders. Stick to solid-color paints. To make the bathroom more colorful, an alternative could be to use the colors of his favorite sports team.

Surface Materials

Think about the look of a bathroom in an upscale hotel. Most use "male friendly" colors and tones to accommodate the tastes of male business travelers. Use materials that align with this design direction, such as floors of hardwood, marble or ceramic tile. Countertops can be marble or tile.

Cabinetry and Hardware

Darker-colored woods and veneers, like walnut and chestnut, are appropriate choices for a man's bathroom. Frosted glass in ready-made cabinets will give his bathroom a high-end, contemporary look and flavor. Use wall and medicine-style cabinets to keep everyday grooming supplies accessible and in easy reach. Pewter-finished hardware will make the room even manlier.

Towels

Take a cue again from hotels, gyms and locker rooms. Keep towels simple in color by sticking to white and beige. Men appreciate "hotel-quality" thick towels that are long in length so they can be wrapped around their bodies after a steaming shower or bath.

Shaving and Grooming Equipment

Wall-mounted, spring-arm mirrors can be installed to help in shaving, especially when the mirror is magnified. This will allow a man to get "up close and personal" to groom mustache and brow areas with more precision. A stainless steel shower caddy hung over the shower arm can house and keep shampoo accessible. Dedicate a specific counter space or area inside cabinets for grooming utensils like electric shavers, scissors, tweezers and blow dryer.
