Removing spray paint from concrete can be a big job. Different methods are recommended for the task depending on the type of spray paint used, how smooth the concrete is and whether the concrete has been sealed. It's a good idea to start with the least difficult and least expensive method of cleaning off graffiti and progress to more complicated means if the easiest ways don't work.
Instructions
1. Spray the painted area with a power washer. If temporary spray paint was used on your concrete or the spray paint was freshly applied, this is an effective treatment; if the paint mostly comes off but some remains, scrub it with a plastic scrub brush dipped in soapy water.
2. Pour paint thinner directly onto tougher spray paint. Allow the paint thinner to sit on the spray paint for an hour, then use a hard wire brush to scrub the spray paint away. Follow this with a warm, soapy water scrubbing with a plastic brush and rinse completely.
3. Apply chemical stripper to persistent spray paint stains following the manufacturer's instructions--this works best on concrete that is new and smooth. Chemical stripper can be poured directly onto the spray paint or it can be poured onto an old rag and wiped over the affected area. Use a wire brush to scrub the concrete surface and rinse thoroughly.
4. Rent a sandblaster from a local home improvement or hardware store for the most stubborn spray paint. Use fine-grain sand and spray over the area with long, smooth strokes. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for use and safety precautions.
