Decorate And Fresh paint Sleeping rooms

The bed is the focal point of a cohesive bedroom design.

Planning bedroom decor can be an intimidating project without training as an interior designer or the budget to hire one. Before buying a bedroom set or putting color on the walls, take the time to put together a mood board of colors, textures, fabrics and furniture designs you find attractive. A mood board allows you to develop a cohesive design as well as mix and match your design options before spending any money. Remember to base the design around the style and color of the bedstead and bedding as the bed is the room's focal point.

Instructions

Mood Board and Furniture Selection

1. Review interior design, home and garden, fashion and nature magazines for appealing images of furniture and interior design styles, as well as photographs of interesting fabrics, colors and textures.

2. Attach images to the foamcore board with the thumb tacks, mixing and matching pictures of different styles, textures and colors. Remove discordant photos until a collection of 5 to 7 complementary images remain on the mood board. Do not discard the removed images.

3. Photograph beds, bedding and other bedroom furniture in local stores with your digital camera. Measure all potential furniture purchases with the tape measure to determine if they will fit in the space. Also, only photograph pieces that fit within your budget and the developing design scheme of the mood board.

4. Print out the digital camera furniture images with the photo printer. Hold photographs of various beds up to the mood board. Pick and purchase one bed to be the focal point of the room.

5. Pin the photograph of the selected bed in the center of the mood board with a thumb tack. Mix, match, keep or discard the digital photographs of smaller furniture items, the mood board images and the removed images until you arrive at a grouping of 5 to 7 complementary images that work with the selected bed.

Color Selection, Painting and Decorating

6. Tack various color combinations of paint chips to the mood board that match or complement the colors found in the 5 to 7 images on the board. Add and remove paint chips until you select 3 to 5 colors that appear to work best with the mood board colors and textures.

7. Paint 3 to 5 small sections of each wall in the bedroom with the paint samples that match the selected paint chips, using the 1-inch wall paintbrush. Hold the mood board up to the various paint sample sections of the wall during daylight hours without any electric light sources on, and during night hours with overhead lights and lamps on.

8. Select one paint sample as the wall color. Choose one secondary color and one accent color that complement the selected wall color from the remaining paint samples and paint chips.

9. Purchase paint supplies and enough paint, in the selected wall color only, to cover the area of the room twice, as directed by experts at the paint supply store. Make sure to paint the room before moving any furniture inside.

10. Set up the bed and all large furniture pieces around the room. Add bedding that matches the secondary color chip and one of the fabric textures on the mood board.

11. Arrange accessories, such as lamps, vases, dresser organizers and wall art, around the room that match the accent color or the textures on the mood board.

12. Select one or two accessories that match the secondary color of the bedding as well. Incorporate the accessories in groups of three items of various sizes. For example, create a grouping of one large item and two smaller, or one large, one medium and one small item.
