After you have finally picked the perfect color for your painting project, you might want to choose a second color to complement it. Matching color schemes can be complementary, analogous or dyadic. A darker or lighter shade of your chosen color can also be paired with it. Use a color wheel to help you coordinate colors for your upcoming painting project.
Instructions
1. Look at a color wheel chart, which can be found online, and use color theory to start the process of coordinating two colors for your painting project. Write down any color matches you choose as you go along so that you can make a final selection in the end.
2. Find a color match that is complementary to the first color as one option to coordinate your two colors of paint. According to color theory, the color that appears exactly opposite from the one you choose on the color chart is its complement. For instance, if you have picked a shade of blue for your main color, a shade of brown is its complement.
3. View the color on either side of the shade you choose on the color wheel chart. These are analogous color matches. Analogous colors can be used as another option to coordinate two colors of paint; they go together because they share a similar hue.
4. Choose a dyadic color-coordinating scheme as a third option. A dyadic match is any two colors that appear two spaces away from each other on the color wheel. For example, if you selected green for your main color, a deep shade of blue appears two spaces away.
5. Use a lighter or darker shade of the color you picked as another option for your painting project. For instance, if you chose a dark purple, you can look at lilac or lavender for the second color.
