Create A Spiderman Mask

You can make many different character masks using this method.

Spiderman is a creative costume, both for playing dress-up and for Halloween. Store-bought Spiderman costumes can be expensive, but you can make your own mask at home with just a few materials and the ability to sew or use fabric adhesive. You can easily make a child's mask from an adult's short-sleeved T-shirt, but an adult mask may require a long-sleeved shirt to be long enough to cover the full face.

Instructions

1. Cut one sleeve off of an adult's red shirt, and turn it inside out. Stitch or glue one end closed.

2. Turn the sleeve right side out and put it on your head to determine how long it should be. Mark the length using chalk. Mark an approximate outline of your eyes as well.

3. Trim the sleeve to the correct length, and hem the edges with glue or a sewing machine, if desired.

4. Draw two triangles, one surrounding each eye. These should be no closer than 1 inch apart, and should have their longest sides extending up at a 45-degree angle from the center of the mask. The bottom of the triangles will be parallel with the bottom of the mask. Cut these out.

5. Turn the sleeve inside out again and stitch or glue white mesh behind the open triangles.

6. Turn the mask the correct way and use chalk to sketch a spider web around the mask. This should extend past the side and top of the mask, and completely surround the head. Carefully squeeze a bottle of black fabric paint over the chalk lines. Apply black fabric paint around the eyes as well.

7. Allow the mask to dry completely before handling or wearing. This may take up to six hours depending on the type of paint you use.
