Do Rock Paintings
Rock painting is a fun and inexpensive hobby. The prevalence of smooth, flat rocks that are usable by hobbyists, makes rock painting affordable and ideal. They can be easy to hold and manipulate, and their porous surface makes them hold paint in a way that a typical canvas does not. Many people take up painting rocks because it is easy to learn and easy to become skillful at.
Instructions
1. Find or purchase a smooth, flat rock. Riverbeds, beaches, streams and creeks are the best places to search for smooth rocks, but they can be found anywhere. Purchase rocks at a crafts stores such as Michael's if you cannot or do not want to search for one.
2. Decide what you want to paint on your rock. Animals, insects, and faces make good subject matter for rock paintings. Landscapes and skylines work well, too. Sketch your idea out on a piece of paper before painting your rock.
3. Coat any portion of your rock with white paint. This makes adding brighter, more vibrant colors to your rock easier. Think of it as a primer coat on a house or a car.
4. Paint over the primer coat with a base color of your preference.
5. Lightly draw your design on the rock with a pencil. Paint any outlines with a thin brush and black paint. Allow the black paint to dry to the touch before you fill in the outline.
6. Add flourishes to your painted rock once it has completely dried. For instance, if you painted a tiger, you can glue a short pipe cleaner to end as a tail. Or if you painted a face, you can glue on bobble eyes.
