When deciding to paint the walls in your home you will want to choose colors that help brighten a room and go along with the type of furniture you choose to have in the room. For example, if you have dark furniture then you will want the walls painted in light or soft colors. With light furniture, you can paint the walls a darker color. A room with plenty of sun can also have walls painted in a darker color so that the room isn't too bright and overwhelming. Walls in homes are more commonly painted but are sometimes wallpapered. Wallpaper tends to wear and tear in a shorter amount of time than painted walls need to be repainted.
Instructions
1. Look for stains on your walls. If there is a smoker in the home, then the walls will be discolored and stained. If there were spills made and they weren't cleaned off right away they can stain the walls as well. If paint was used the last time the walls were painted, that doesn't allow you to simply wipe off the dirt from the walls --- then you will want to paint the walls.
2. Determine how long it has been since the walls were painted. If it has been more than five years then you might want to consider painting the walls once again to give your home a cleaner appearance.
3. Remove wallpaper. If you have wallpapered walls and are tired of looking at the same patterns or notice wear and tear, then you might want to remove the wallpaper and paint your walls with a color that will go with your decor.
4. Change your furniture. If you changed your furniture to a different color and style you might want to paint your walls again. They can be the same color or different as long as it looks fresh and new and doesn't take away from the new furniture.
5. Decide on the best weather during which to paint. When painting your walls you want to make sure there is plenty of ventilation. Also avoid painting on a rainy day: this will prolong the amount of time it will take for the paint to dry. During spring weather is the best time to paint your walls since there is usually enough breeze to keep the room ventilated with your windows open. And there is usually enough heat to dry the walls within hours.
