Decorate A Gray Brick House

A brick exterior can add charm and architectural interest to a home. To keep a gray-bricked home from appearing drab and boring, add colors and accents to the exterior and landscape to brighten the yard and increase curb appeal. Gray is an easy shade to work with because it pairs well with many colors to contrast or complement the outside of the home. Once you choose an accent color, add plants to complete the look of the exterior.

Instructions

1. Paint trim in a color that complements gray brick, such as white, burgundy or steel blue, which all work with tones in the brick to bring out a rich, warm look. Paint any deck railings the same color as the trim to keep a cohesive look.

2. Paint the front door burgundy to add impact to the front of the home. If you prefer a stained wooden door, opt for a cherry or mahogany finish. If you choose a striking door and wish to keep it the focal point, use white for the trim around the home.

3. Add shutters to the windows as a way to add more color to the home, if desired. Select a paint that contrasts with the trim. For example, if you choose a white trim, paint the shutters forest green, steel blue or chocolate brown. Using a different color on accents around the exterior will brighten up the look of the entire home and offer contrast.

4. Plant perennials in flower beds around the foundation to enhance overall color and curb appeal for the home. Choose colors that pair well with gray, including purple, pink, yellow, red and orange. For example, plant geraniums, black-eyed Susan, lavender, bee balm or daisies to complement gray brick.
