Tropical House Colors

Color plays a major role in the decor of tropical homes.

Homes from Miami's South Beach to Mexico's Cabo San Lucas share a love of tropical colors. From brights to pastels and from bold designs to more subtle choices, color plays a major role in the decor of tropical homes and is symbolic of the tropical way of life.

Pink

From subtle shades such as pastels to more exotic shades such as hot pink, pink is one of the most popular of all tropical colors. Some of the finest homes in some of the most exclusive of areas proudly bare this shade to celebrate the tropical lifestyle. While some go for pink shades to trim a white or neutral-colored home, others take the plunge and go for an all over and more striking effect.

Blue

Blue is symbolic of water. Therefore it is only natural that exotic shades of blue are some of the most popular of all the tropical shades. From deep ocean blues to lighter shades such as steel, blue is a diverse color that can be used for many decorating aspects for a tropical home.

Green

Green offers many shades that go well with the decor of a tropical home. From deep grassy greens to lighter shades of aqua, the versatility of the hue is what draws many tropical home owners to select it. Many designers choose various shades of green to accentuate the details of a home including the roof, shutters and doors.

Orange and Yellow

The tropics are home to citrus fruits. Many homes favor the use of colors such as bright oranges or pale banana yellows. Designers and home owners use these oranges and yellows as base colors for the home and then trim the doors, windows and shutters in bright white for a sunny look.

Purple

Another popular choice in the color scheme of tropical homes is purple. From lighter lavender shades to shockingly bright magenta, purple is a color that many choose to celebrate the festivity of island living. Many designers who select this color choose complementing shades of pink or pale blue for trim work in order to stay with a cooler tropical theme.
