Brick & Rock Exterior Ideas
As a homeowner, you may find that it's time to spruce up your outdoor living space. Whether you want to accent the entryway of your home or finish up the landscaping in your backyard, there is no better choice then to use brick or rock to create that perfect masterpiece. If you enjoy the natural feel of nature or the rustic look in your outdoor living spaces, then brick or rock is the perfect choice for that outdoor project.
Brick Pavers
If you want an easy weekend idea, then laying some brick pavers may be just the thing. You can buy brick pavers from your local home improvement center and for very little money. A typical installation can be done in one to two days. Brick pavers are usually installed to connect different parts of the yard together, such as a garden and side yard. Brick pavers may also provide a path across your lawn from the front yard to the back. The look of brick is very natural and holds up to the elements well.
Rock Riverbed
Another simple but elegant idea is to use various sizes of rocks and create your own natural-looking riverbed or creek. The best place for your homemade riverbed is usually in the backyard. In some cases, the yard will already have a natural slope that will accommodate your riverbed. Or you may have to modify your yard for the stone riverbed to drain away from the yard and house. This natural drainage will protect your home and patio from potential water damage after heavy rains.
Rocks in all shapes and sizes can be found in your local rock quarry, or sometimes local nurseries carry rocks in different sizes.
Rock or Brick Veneer
Perhaps you have decided that you want to take on a more challenging project. One idea is to use brick or rock veneer to change the appearance of your home's exterior. You may choose to simply place brick or rock veneer around your garage. Or you can apply the veneer to the lower portion of the front of your house. This kind of project will take more time to complete, but can be done over a few long weekends.
Rock Wall
Use rock to create a low stone wall that surrounds the front of your yard. This type of project is quite complicated; you may have to find a professional to do the installation for you. Rock walls can be used to divert water in flood areas or can be installed for purely aesthetic value. This kind of project can take several days to complete yourself, so plan this time carefully if you decide not to hire a contractor.
You can even add accents to your rock wall, such as columns that have light fixtures on the top or small stone pagodas or statues.
