Fresh paint Wood Trim Having A Golden Color

Choose a golden color paint to brighten up wood trim.

Painting wood trim in a golden color can brighten up any room. The key to painting wood trim successfully is to prepare the woodwork carefully and protect other nearby surfaces from paint splatter and other damage. With a suitable wood paint primer and an oil-based or acrylic golden color paint, you should achieve an attractive and long-lasting finish.

Instructions

1. Clean the wood trim carefully to help the paint adhere to the surface. Remove dirt and grease from the wood trim with a trisodium phosphate (TSP) cleaning solution. Apply the cleaner with the supplied applicator or by dampening a cloth with the cleaner and using this to wipe over the wood trim. Start at the bottom of the wood trim and work your way up. Always wear protective gloves and a face mask while using TSP.

2. Rinse off the wood trim with clean water and a clean cloth. Wait for the wood trim to dry.

3. Mask the areas around the wood trim to protect them from damage during sanding or painting. Stick wide masking tape on all surfaces on either side of the wood trim. Apply the tape by pulling it from the roll and pressing it in place neatly and close up to the edge of the wood trim. Place a dropcloth on the floor under your work area to protect carpets and flooring.

4. Remove all existing loose or flaking paint from the wood trim, if necessary. Scrape away all loose paint with a scraper. Remove remaining traces of paint and smooth the surface of the wood trim by sanding it with a 120-grit sandpaper. Wrap the sandpaper around a sanding block to give you a better grip. Wear eye protection and a face mask while you sand.

5. Treat the wood trim with an aluminum-based primer. This will stop oils and sap from the wood from staining the new paintwork. Paint on one coat of primer with a regular paintbrush. Wait for the primer to completely dry. Drying times vary depending on the brand, so check the manufacturer's instructions carefully.

6. Paint the wood trim with an oil-based or acrylic paint. You can choose from a range of deep yellow or golden color paints, including gold paint that gives a shiny, metallic-like finish. Paint the wood trim with a regular paintbrush for oil-based paints or a latex paintbrush for acrylic paints. Paint in the direction of the wood grain. Wait for the first coat of paint to dry and then add a second coat in the same way to give an even and long-lasting finish.
