Seal Stucco

Stucco can be maintained easily when sealed with a mold-retardant paint.

Stucco is a masonry product used on exterior walls as a finish. Because of the porous nature of stucco, it is often prone to mildew buildup. Sealing stucco can protect your walls from mold, and ensure that it stays looking beautiful for many years to come. With the right tools and some time, seal stucco yourself.

Instructions

1. Clean your stucco with masonry cleaner. Use a cleaner that is designed for stucco that has a mildew remover. Apply the cleaner to the stucco and scrub the stucco with a brush. Spray off the cleaner with a hose when finished.

2. Rinse your stucco thoroughly and repeat as necessary until well cleaned. Allow the stucco to dry before you continue.

3. Use the painter's tape to seal off any areas that you do not wish to get paint on, such as window sills or gutters.

4. Stir the stucco paint with mold preventative well. This is a thick solution and should be mixed well. Stir down near the bottom to make sure it is well mixed.

5. Paint the stucco with the solution. Use the roller to cover large areas, and the paint brush to trim around the edges. Apply a thick, even coat all over the entire surface of the stucco to ensure a good seal.

6. Allow the first coat to dry well, and apply a second coat to seal any spots that may have been missed.

7. Remove the painter's tape when all surfaces are dry and you are satisfied with the coverage.
