Spray your address on your outdoor trash cans to identify them.
Many communities have garbage cans that all look alike. Most garbage companies utilize automated trucks where a hydraulic arm picks up the trash cans and dumps them into the truck one by one. This type of automation means the trash cans must be uniform in size and shape. To distinguish your cans from your neighbors', spray paint an address on your garbage pail.
Instructions
1. Place tarp around a shaded area such as a side yard. This will prevent spraying grass or any other objects you do not want to accidentally paint.
2. Place your garbage pail or can on top of the tarp. Painting in the shade is ideal because direct sunlight is not good for the paint. Morning or evening spraying is best for this kind of job because the paint adheres better to a surface when it is not too hot or humid.
3. Spray any type of household cleaner onto the area of the garbage pail you wish to paint. Wipe with a rag. Allow the area to dry completely.
4. Shake the spray paint vigorously before you begin. Choose a color that will stand out against the color of the garbage pail, such as black, orange or silver. Test it on a scrap piece of cardboard to be sure the can is working properly and the color is what you expected.
5. Press the spray valve at the top of the can and spray the number of your street address slowly onto the front of your trash can. Use even strokes and spray out each number separately. Wipe the valve with a rag if it looks clogged.
6. Spray the rest of your address if it is not too long. Usually the street number of your home is adequate, but you can certainly spray the rest of the address below the numbers. Allow it to dry.
