Sometimes a plain white background is all that's needed to accentuate a good photo.
Imagine the look on your friends' faces when they see a photo of you standing on the surface of the moon! Better yet, you could be sitting beside the President and his wife on the front steps of the White House. Or maybe you simply want a blank background behind your foreground subject. Whatever the reason, the background-editing possibilities with digital photos are almost endless.
Instructions
1. Open your photo in your photo editing software. Select "Paths" from your menu selections.
2. Click on the edge of your foreground subject. Create a path by clicking in short segments all the way around your foreground subject. (Your last click should be on top of the point created by your first click.)
3. Change the path to a selection, by choosing "Select from Path" from your menu selections. Choose "Invert" from your selection menu, to select everything outside of the foreground subject. Type "Delete" to remove the background.
4. Select "New Layer" from your menu selections to create a new background layer, making it black, white or any desired color. Alternately, use a different photo as the background image by selecting "Open as Layer" from your menu selections. Re-order your layers from the Layer sidebar, by dragging the background layer behind (lower than) the foreground image.
5. Resize either layer as needed, by clicking "Scale Layer" from the menu selections. Drag each layer with your curser to the desired relative location. Choose "Flatten Image" from the menu selections. Choose "Save as" from the menu and save your edited photo using a new filename.
