Fresh paint A Brown & Gold Asian Room

Quality paintbrushes help ensure the professional look of painted walls.

Using brown and gold wall paint is an attractive way to decorate an Asian-inspired room, particularly if you use a third accent color, such as a burgundy-red shade in your accessories, fabrics and other d cor. It is not difficult to use two wall colors in one room. You must decide what type of look you want to express with the paint colors. Using the two tones with a chair rail gives the room more of a traditional look. Painting horizontal or vertical stripes on the wall gives the room more of a contemporary Asian style.

Instructions

1. Look at your existing furniture, accessories and the fabrics in the room. Decide if you want to use the brown paint as the primary color to cover the walls and the gold paint to finish the woodwork trim or vice versa. Doing this makes the color selection easier, since you should pick the wall color based on what shades you want to enhance in the room. For instance, if the furniture is a dark brown wood, painting the walls in the gold color is the best choice to prevent the room from looking too drab.

2. Tape paint sample cards onto the wall area or actually paint an area that is 2 feet by 2 feet to get a true taste of what the paint color looks like during different lighting conditions throughout the day. Most paints tend to look a bit darker in a large space once you get them on the wall, according to the Rental Decorating Digest. It is wise to choose a shade or two lighter than you think you will need.

3. Knock down any cobwebs or dust with a feather duster or broom . Place dropcloths on the floor to catch any paint drips or spills and cover any furniture in the room.

4. Wash the wall area with a clean cloth or damp sponge and an all-purpose cleaner to eliminate stains, hair spray or other residue. This provides a clean surface that helps the paint to better adhere.

5. Cover any woodwork, such as baseboards, window frames or other areas you want to protect from falling paint with painter's or masking tape.

6. Paint the primary color choice onto the wall area with a paint roller. Use a paintbrush to cut in the edges near baseboards, windows and ceilings to ensure a neat-looking job. Allow the wall color to dry.

7. Paint the windowsills, door frames and baseboards in the secondary color you chose with a clean brush. Allow the area to dry completely.
