Beach Home Interior Colors

Many people find it relaxing to have home decor that reminds them of the beach.

The beach has always been an inspirational source for interior home decorating ideas. Many people like to find ways of bringing the serenity and natural beauty of the ocean and the shore into their homes through ornaments, accessories and the use of natural materials. One of the easiest ways to bring the beach into your home is through a beach-inspired color palette.

Nautical Color Scheme

A lighthouse inspires many bold nautical color combinations.

A nautical color scheme for your home interior utilizes the stronger, darker colors normally associated with the ocean, the shoreline and seafaring. Navy blue is a good baseline color for contrast and accents. Dark red makes a bold, rustic accent color. Brown and beige serve well for furniture pieces, walls and larger upholstery if the desired effect is a more weathered look. For brighter contrasts and a lighter feel to the home interior, use these stronger colors as finishing touches against predominantly white or off-white walls and fabrics.

Tranquil Pastels

The color of sand serves as a perfect neutral base for a beach theme.

To bring the peace and tranquility of a relaxing summer day at the beach, calm pastels and pale neutrals are your best bet for an interior color scheme. Layer pale sky blues, aquamarines and sea foam greens on each other for visual interest. Sea shell white makes a bold base color for furniture, area rugs and upholstery. To break up the monotony of cool pastels, add accent colors in pale lemon yellow, salmon and coral with throw rugs, pillows and decor pieces. Sand-colored walls or accent pieces like window treatments, seating upholstery, throw pillows and lamp shades tie the color scheme together while remaining reminiscent of natural settings.

Tropical Beach Theme

A tropical beach is a lively inspiration for an interior home color theme.

Bring the energy and vibrancy of a tropical oasis into your home with a bright, cheerful tropical beach color theme. The tropics have very lively colors, such as deep corals, vivid deep-sea aquas and fruity reds and pinks. Use the bolder, richer coconut browns as a base color and layer in sunny yellows, bright sky blues and rich palm tree hues of greens as embellishments. For lighter accents, avoid plain, stark whites in this interior theme and rely instead on sandy beiges. Not for the faint of heart, a tropical color theme largely relies on vivid, strong colors in nature-inspired combinations.
