Remove Wall Fresh paint From Clothes

Oil-based and latex paint stains can be removed from clothing if treated right away.

Even the most careful painter can end up with wall paint on their clothes. If this happens, whether it is oil-based or latex paint, you can save your garment with a little bit of time and effort. The sooner you treat a paint stain, the better your chances of removing the stain.

Instructions

Latex paint

1. Remove any excess paint being careful not to spread the paint making the stain bigger.

2. Run warm water over the garment through the backside of the stain.

3. Mix equal amounts of warm water and dishwashing detergent.

4. Scrub the stain with a sponge and the water/detergent mix.

5. Rinse with water and repeat steps 4 and 5 until the stain is gone.

6. Launder as usual.

Oil-based paints

7. Remove excess paint. If it is an old stain, soften it with paint thinner.

8. Blot the stain with a clean white towel or cloth. Get as much off as possible.

9. Rinse the garment with water.

10. Lay the garment face down on a stack of paper towels or clean cloth.

11. Spot-treat the stain with a sponge dipped in turpentine. Continue treating the stain with turpentine until no more paint comes off.

12. Sponge what remains of the stain with liquid dishwashing detergent and let it soak overnight.

13. Rinse the garment with water.

14. Launder as usual. If the stain is not gone, treat it with a stain remover and wash it again.
