A small bathroom doesn't have to be boring.
Though painting a small bathroom can seem intimidating, it is an ideal place to experiment with color. Since it requires less paint than most other rooms in the house, it is also one of the most economical rooms to re-decorate. A small bathroom can be transformed from ordinary and functional to a colorful, dramatic space in only a weekend.
Instructions
1. Evaluate your personal taste. Find one of your favorite colors on a color wheel and choose a paint color that is a similar. Opt for a lighter shade to create a soothing ambiance or a darker color for an interesting pop of boldness in an otherwise utilitarian space.
2. Consider the overall mood of the space. The color of the walls provides the backdrop for the entire bathroom and sets the tone for the room. Choosing cool blues, soft lavenders, crisp light greens or neutral beiges or whites can calm the room while deep reds, chocolate browns, vivid purples, dark grays or other saturated hues can create a cozy atmosphere.
3. Use pure white on the walls to enlarge the bathroom. White reflects light, making a small, tight space feel bright, light and airy.
4. Choose a dark color to give the illusion of depth. A deep color can camouflage the smallness of a bathroom, making it feel grand. Make sure woodwork is painted the same color, but in a different sheen, to create a seamless space and avoid chopping up the room visually.
5. Limit the color palette to two colors to avoid a chaotic space. When choosing to use two colors in the bathroom, make sure all other elements in the room, such as tile and fixtures, are in either one of these colors or a similar shade. Adding decorative pieces in other colors, or a busy shower curtain, can visually diminish the space in the bathroom.
