Paint window trims to add color to a room.
White is the common color for trims such as those on windows, doors and baseboards, but the color palette doesn't have to be limited to this standby. Instead, use bold colors on the windows or soft, muted shades, to add strong colors to the decor without overwhelming the room. If the wood around windows and doors is a beautiful wood, leave it natural; otherwise take advantage of this opportunity to add some color.
Instructions
1. Use white, off-white or soft trim colors when you want to create a tranquil or muted feel in the room. White is a traditional trim color because it goes with every color, and most trim comes in white so you don't need to repaint it. Old homes should have trim that is painted an antiqued white or weathered white, because stark white will give a fake look to the decor. Use soft pastel colors in rooms with white or very muted walls to add a hint of color. White walls with soft pink trim will give a soft, romantic look.
2. Paint trim a bold color when you want to make a strong statement. Use complementary colors such as yellow walls and purple trim for a look that really stands out. This color-on-color combination is only suited for people who love a lot of color in their rooms.
3. Add dark trim to light walls for a look that is bolder than traditional white, but doesn't stand out as much as mixing colors. Use a darker variation of the wall color for the trim, such as light blue walls and a dark blue trim. Light green walls and dark green trim also work around windows with a lot of greenery visible outside, because it makes the room feel like it's part of nature.
