Fresh paint Walls Light Gold

Apply a light base coat before painting your wall gold.

Painting walls a light golden yellow is easy, but if you want the subtle sparkle of gold, you will need to take a few extra steps. A light metallic gold glaze over a basecoat of solid paint will give you the look and shine of light gold walls, without being gaudy. The glaze will also reflect light, making the room appear brighter as the existing light bounces off the walls. Complement your light gold walls with cherry wood trim or furniture, or use burgundy or navy accents in your decor.

Instructions

1. Paint your walls with an opaque white latex paint, often called "hiding" or "high-hide" white if your walls are currently a medium to dark color. Skip this if you are painting over white or light-colored walls. Apply the paint by brushing it into the edges and corners, and then rolling the larger areas with a roller and high-quality roller pads. Let the paint dry completely.

2. Paint the entire surface of your walls with a cream or light golden yellow color. Choose a color slightly lighter than you want for your final gold look. Brush in the edges and roll on the large areas. Allow this coat to dry completely.

3. Dip a cellulose (standard kitchen) sponge into your gold glaze and blot it onto the edges of your walls. The sponge produces a texture that is more like the roller texture than paintbrush strokes, and the glaze will show these differences more than the paint did.

4. Work the glaze into the corners and edges with your sponge until you have an even coat, about 3 inches out from each edge.

5. Roll a coat of metallic gold glaze onto the rest of the wall surface before the edging dries. Glaze is much thinner than regular paint, so make sure you roll the excess glaze out of the roller on a roller tray or screen to avoid drips.

6. Rub the rolled-on glaze with dry rags while it is still wet if you want a more subtle gold look. The rag-rubbing will give your wall a gold-washed look rather than a solid painted look, but it is easier to avoid drips and get an even coat if you use this method. Alternatively, streak the glaze with strokes from a wallpaper brush to give the gold a brushed metal look.
