Painting rooms yourself has become a popular project. It requires some supplies from your local home improvement store and time. Each coat of paint will take about one hour to dry. New drywall does not need any special preparation. The outer paper is made to be painted. Color choices are almost endless, and many paint suppliers will mix custom colors at no extra charge. By doing the work yourself, you can save money on hiring a paint crew, and have the opportunity to let your own creativity shine.
Instructions
1. Check that all joint compound on the drywall is smooth. Sand any rough places. The surface must be even to achieve a professional, finished appearance.
2. Protect floor surface with drop cloths or plastic sheeting. Cover mantles, hearths and other fixtures that touch the walls. Tape edges of trim, such as door frames, window casings and moldings.

4. Roll on one coat of primer to all wall surfaces. The coverage should be even, with no thin spots. Allow to dry thoroughly. Wash the brush, roller and tray.
