Clean Glass For Spray Painting

Spray paint vandalism is not the insurmountable villain it once was.

Cleaning spray paint from a residential or commercial window is no doubt an irritating task. But while being the victim of spray paint vandalism would have once caused panic in the minds of home and business owners, there are simple solutions that can remove all traces of spray paint from glass in very little time. With a little elbow grease and the right cleaning supplies, spray paint can be cleaned from glass very effectively with minimal effort.

Instructions

Cleaning your Glass of Spray Paint

1. Fill a small bucket with soap and water. Clean the area of the glass where the spray painting occurred with soap and water to remove any oils or finger marks and to prepare the glass for a stronger cleaning solvent. Let the glass dry before continuing.

2. Choose between a commercial glass cleaning solution or acetone to remove the paint. Commercial glass cleaner is available at many hardware stores, but can be more costly than a bottle of pure acetone. Generally, acetone works faster as a cleaning agent, as well. However, keep in mind that acetone is more noxious than most commercial glass cleaners, so consider the size of the area you need to clean while deciding which cleaning agent is right for you.

3. Pour a small amount of the cleaning agent you have chosen onto a clean rag (not the same one you used with the soap and water.) Saturate the area with liquid and use small, forceful circular motions to remove the spray paint one inch at a time. Keep in mind that using large, swirling motions over the entire spray painted area will not be as effective.

4. Wait until the area is completely dry. If remnants of spray paint persist after after cleaning, use a small razor blade to gently chip away the flakes of paint that are still adhering to the window. Use small, careful scratches to ensure that no marks are left on the glass permanently.
