Transform your terra cotta pots with some paint.
Terra cotta pots add life to both indoor and outdoor spaces when filled with colorful plants and flowers. On its own, terra cotta is a pale earthen tone, but that's easy to change with paint. Painting your pots gold adds the look and feel of luxury to an area and is a very simple task to complete.
Instructions
1. Clean the terra cotta pot. Scrub away any remnants of dirt or dust as this can interfere with paint adhesion. If the pot was previously in use, soak in a solution of one part bleach and nine parts water for 24 hours. Use a knife or wire brush to scrape away any deposits. Terra cotta is a porous material that absorbs liquid. Allow at least 48 hours for the pot to dry. Place the pot out in the sun to aid in the process if possible.
2. Prepare the area for painting your pots. Spread newspaper or a paint drop cloth over a table to protect it. Tape the edges down with masking tape to prevent shifting.
3. Dress in old clothing before beginning the paint job. Acrylics and spray paint are notoriously hard to remove from fabric.
4. Paint the pot using either a water-based gold acrylic paint or indoor/outdoor spray paint. Use a paint brush to apply the gold acrylic by sweeping it back and forth over the pot to achieve adequate paint coverage. For spray paint, press down on the button and move it back and forth over the pot until the entire surface is covered.
