Room Painting Approaches For An Italian Bathroom

Paint your bathroom to evoke the essence of Italy.

Get your paint brushes ready if you want to stylize your bathroom to evoke the traditional atmosphere of Italy. Italian-style bathrooms can range in design, giving you the option to create a luxurious and ornate bathroom by using gold hues, painting stylized trim, and even small murals on the bathroom walls.

The Regal Bathroom

Create a regal bathroom, similar to the bathrooms that the Italian elite enjoy. The key to evoking a sense of old wealth is to use gold paint to embellish trims in your bathroom. Select a gold paint that has glitter or gloss. If possible, select light fixtures to match. Paint the bathroom walls with a mellow and muted color, such as pale blue to create contrast in the design.

Stucco Walls

Add texture to your bathroom walls to create the unique old stucco look of many Italian houses. Select a mellow and relaxing color for the bathroom walls. Mask the trim and paint all walls with the color you selected. Allow the paint to dry completely. Choose a second color that is slightly lighter than the base color. Apply a small amount of paint to a dry brush and apply the paint lightly in patches. Smear the patches with a dry rag to create a stucco effect. If desired, you can also apply Venetian Plaster over the base coat to create a three-dimensional effect.

Trim Design

Spruce up the look of your bathroom by adding unique designs to the trim around the bathroom walls. This is a quick and simple way to make your bathroom appear ornate without being overwhelmingly busy. Outlined flower or grape illustrations, even a scroll design will accent your bathroom walls, evoking the ambiance of Italy.

Italian Murals

Show off your artistic skill by creating paintings of the Italian countryside in your bathroom. To prevent the bathroom from becoming too busy, the paintings should be small rather than occupying the entire bathroom walls. Paintings of villas, wineries, cities, and countrysides will take you back to the Old Country.
