Interior Texture Painting

If your walls show dings, scratches or other signs of wear, you may wish to consider installing new drywall or filling in the imperfections with compound. Unfortunately, both of these propositions are labor intensive and time consuming. Textured painting is a much simpler and faster way to hide imperfections while giving your walls an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Depending on the size of your room, you can complete a textured painting job in as little as a weekend.

Instructions

1. Mix a few drops of mild detergent with warm water in a bucket. Dip a sponge in the solution and wring it out thoroughly. Clean the walls with a sponge to remove dust and loose dirt. Let the walls dry overnight.

2. Apply a coat of primer to the walls with a paint roller. Use a paint brush for any dings that a roller cannot cover. Let the primer dry and apply a second coat.

3. Paint the walls with the base paint coat when the second coat of primer is dry. Apply a second base coat if necessary. Let the base coat dry completely.

4. Apply the topcoat of paint with a texture tool. The type of tool you use depends on the effect you want to achieve. You can use a piece of crinkled plastic to create a leather texture, a sponge to create a stone look or a soft bristle scrub brush to impart a weathered plaster appearance. Let the topcoat dry overnight.
