Fresh paint A Rv To Appear Bigger

Paint a Mobile Home to Look Bigger

Mobile homes are cost-effective but they can have a limited amount of space. Single-wide mobile homes are 18 feet or less in width and are 90 feet in length. A double-wide mobile home is at least 20 feet or more in width and are 90 feet in length. Using mirrors and light to brighten rooms will help to provide an open and airy atmosphere. To make your mobile home look bigger, paint will produce the most dramatic change to your interior.

Instructions

Ceilings and Walls

1. Choose light, cool paint colors such as white, yellow, light green or light blue. These colors reflect light and will create the illusion of larger rooms.

2. Move your furniture away from walls and cover with plastic to protect them from damage. Lay plastic or a painter's drop cloth on the floor. Cover objects that you do not want to paint such as electrical outlets and light switches.

3. Paint the ceiling with white paint to open up the room. Use a paint roller attached to a long handle or use a paint sprayer. Work in small sections, until the entire ceiling is painted. To avoid ruining your paint job on the walls, paint the ceiling first. If paint drips down the wall, clean it immediately with a damp cloth.

4. Use an angled paint brush on the wall to paint above the baseboards, beside the trim, inside corners and below the ceiling. This will "outline" the wall that you are going to paint.

5. Paint walls using a paint roller attached to a long handle. Dip the paint roller into the paint and start applying the paint to the wall, one foot from the bottom. Roll upward and stop three inches from the ceiling. Roll back down at an angle forming the letter W on the wall.

6. Fill in the rest of the wall with paint using up and down strokes until the entire wall is painted. Repeat this process on each wall.

Kitchen and Bathroom Cabinets

7. Empty cabinets and remove objects on your kitchen counter. Protect areas with plastic and painter's tape that you do not want to paint. Choose an area to paint the cabinets, preferably outdoors, to avoid paint fumes.

8. Remove the cabinet doors, drawers and hardware.

9. Clean the cabinet doors with a household cleaner. For tougher stains use trisodium phosphate (TSP).

10. Sand the cabinet doors with 150- or 180-grit sandpaper.

11. Remove the debris with mineral spirits on a damp cloth.

12. Apply a primer to cabinet doors. Choose a primer that fills in imperfections, if necessary.

13. Sand the cabinet doors lightly, after the primer has dried, remove debris with mineral spirits on a damp cloth.

14. Apply paint to cabinet doors with a brush. Use a synthetic-bristle paint brush for latex paint or a natural-bristle paint brush for oil-based paint. Apply two to three coats.

15. Let paint dry then attach hardware to cabinet doors. Reattach cabinet doors and drawers.
