Bring the sunny outdoors inside with a beach theme on a wall.
Painting a mural on a wall in any room in your home can help freshen the space and create an interesting focal point in the room. A beach scene can be a theme if you want to bring a feeling of warmth and brightness to a room. You can paint a beach design on a wall with basic supplies and specific painting techniques.
Instructions
Preparation
1. Rub over the wall with a piece of 180-grit sandpaper to smoothen the surface by removing any imperfections.
2. Pour a small amount of a concentrated wall cleaning solution onto a rag.
3. Rub the rag across the wall to remove any dust or dirt from the surface.
Painting the Sand
4. Pour some light brown paint into a paint tray.
5. Dip a paint roller into the paint and paint across the bottom half of the wall. The top line should be nearly straight and span from one side of the wall to the other, to create the look of sand.
6. Dip a large paintbrush and paint over random sections in the paint by making short horizontal lines, to darken the paint in these areas and create definition.
Painting the Sky
7. Pour some light blue paint into a paint tray.
8. Dip a paint roller into the paint and paint across the top half of the wall.
9. Allow the paint to dry completely. This should take between five to 10 hours. Refer to the paint manufacturer's instructions to be sure.
10. Pour some white paint into a paint tray.
11. Dip a sponge into the paint and dab the color onto the wall, moving in a nearly straight horizontal line to create the bottom of a single cloud. You can make the cloud as long or short as you want. Once you create the bottom line, move the sponge upward on the wall and build the cloud from the base up. The top of the cloud should vary in shape, with a few higher and lower curves.
12. Pour some yellow paint into a paint tray.
13. Dip a paintbrush into the paint and paint a solid circle on the upper left or right of the wall to create a sun. You can also add rays of sunshine by painting solid strokes outwards around the perimeter of the circle.
