Using rollers and sprayers when painting can increase the speed of the project.
Using specific techniques when painting the interior and exterior of a house can make a home more aesthetically pleasing. Similar brush strokes while painting give a home a smooth look without protruding layers of uneven paint. Using the correct tools is the first step in house painting. Brushes are used only in smaller areas where sprayers or rollers won't fit.
Instructions
Interior
1. Prime the interior of the house before painting. Prime with rollers in an up-and-down motion, never side to side or diagonally. Use a brush to prime around door frames, light switches and other small areas where the roller will not navigate.
2. Pour the paint from the paint bucket into a pan until the paint is 1/4 inch thick. Do not overfill the pan, as the air will begin to dry the paint. Use the roller to apply the paint in the same fashion as the primer (up and down).
3. Apply a second coat (if needed or desired) in the same up-and-down motion as well to ensure all the layers are bonding together. Applying the paint in the same direction as the primer will prevent peeling or warping in the future.
Exterior
4. Use an airless paint sprayer to cut the time of the exterior painting in half. Add primer into the chamber of the sprayer. Stand at least 4 feet away from the surface being painted (and angle the ladder 4 feet away if painting multiple floors).
5. Pull the handle trigger on the sprayer to begin the coating. Move the spray nozzle immediately, making sure the spray does not stay pointed at one area for more than a second. Move the nozzle evenly and slowly over the surface to get a full complete coat.
6. Put a fresh chamber onto the sprayer. Pour in the paint for the exterior of the house. Use the same method (4 feet away, consistent slow movements) to cover the outside of the home. Apply at least two coats to the outside of the home, with a third coat being optional.
