Surrounded by water, sunlight and sea life, your beach house scenery differs greatly from suburbia and should have decorations that differ as well. Beach houses should be light and airy, welcoming the ocean breeze and sunlight inside. The sound of crashing waves, seagulls and the smell off the ocean should inspire the theme of your beach house. Decorate so you can feel the openness not felt in most city homes.
Instructions
1. Paint your walls a pale yellow that looks similar to sand. Your beach house should accentuate the colors of ocean life.
2. Add bead boards horizontally on your bedroom walls for decoration to give the room a beach retreat feel. Paint the walls pale yellow and use white paint for accents. Paint seashell or starfish borders to accent the beach.
3. Add lightweight and light-colored curtains to your windows to give the house an airy feel. You want sunlight to shine throughout your beach house, so avoid heavy, dark-colored shades. Add white blinds to accentuate the curtains.
4. Use wooden floors to keep the design simple. Avoid using carpets in your beach house because they give a warm look that doesn't exude a beach feel. Excessive sand buildup, humidity and water can ruin carpeting.
5. Decorate your home with light-colored slipcovered furniture and wicker pieces to keep the house light and airy. Wicker furniture tends to be lightweight and make rooms feel open and airy. Dark, heavy and bulky furniture can look out of place in a beach home.
6. Decorate mirrors and accessories with seashells, starfish and beach glass to continue the beach theme throughout the house.
7. Keep decor light in color. Try to stick with white and pale yellow to accentuate the walls and the beach house feel.
