Fresh paint Cedar plank Lap Siding On The House

Painting cedar lap siding on your house will undoubtedly enhance its appearance even as it protects the siding from natural elements. Although cedar is naturally rot resistant, painting it ostensibly prolongs the condition of the siding, thereby reducing the costs of repairing damaged wood. Before you apply paint over cedar lap siding, condition the siding surfaces so the paint adheres to the pieces better. Apply two or more coats so you achieve a solid bold color that is difficult to scratch or penetrate.

Instructions

1. Clean the cedar surface thoroughly with a pressure washer to remove dirt, debris or dust from the surface, and leave it to air dry.

2. Sand the siding with a hand-held sander and 80-grit sanding pad, moving in the direction of the grain of the bit. Move your hand over the cedar siding in a circular motion to remove inconsistencies and remove flaking or chipping paint from a previous paint job. Rub the surface of the siding with a rag to remove residue.

3. Prime the cedar lap siding using a roller for wide boards and a 3- to 4-inch-wide paintbrush for the seams. Grasp the roller firmly in one hand and move it steadily over the cedar surface as you apply the acrylic water-based primer over it, then spread the wet primer over the adjacent inner seams with the brush. Work in 3- to 5-foot sections, starting from the top of the house, so you cover the entire surface. Continue the process of priming the surface until it is completely covered, and leave it to dry.

4. Paint the cedar siding on your house the same way as you applied the primer. Dip the roller in acrylic, water-based paint before applying it over the cedar siding, moving in the direction of the grain of wood. Once you cover a small section of the siding with paint, spread it over the seams using a small paintbrush. Continue to work in tiny sections until you paint the entire siding. Leave the paint to dry overnight.

5. Apply another coat of paint over the siding to form a thick, impenetrable coat that protects the wood and gives you the desired color. Ensure that the previous coat of paint is dry before applying another coat. Leave this coat to dry thoroughly.
