Painted maple cabinets
Like most kitchen cabinets, maple cabinets can become tired looking after much wear and tear. Painting maple cabinets will give them new life. Homeowners can paint their maple cabinetry in a weekend. The proper preparation and tools will ensure a quality finish of paint on the maple cabinets.
Instructions
1. Wash the maple cabinets so they are clean and free of dirt and grease. Use water, a soft cloth, and a household cleaner with a degreaser formula to clean the cabinets.
2. Unscrew the hinges and hardware. Remove the doors from the cabinetry.
3. Strip the cabinets with a chemical stripper. This helps to remove the old finish from the maple cabinets. Apply the chemical stripper with a paintbrush and scrap it off with a paint scraper. Rinse the cabinets with clean water to remove any residue from the chemical stripper. Let the cabinetry dry.
4. Fill large dents or holes with wood putty. Let the putty dry and then sand the entire set of maple cabinetry with 150 grit sandpaper. Wipe the cabinets with tack cloth to remove the dust.
5. Apply primer to the maple cabinets and doors with a paintbrush. Allow the primer to dry completely.
6. Paint the cabinets with two to three coats of latex paint. Let each coat of paint dry before applying the next coat. Allow the final coat of paint to dry for several days before use.
7. Reattach the hardware and doors to the cabinetry.
