Paint cubbies to match their surroundings.
Plant cubbies are wooden boxes that are used to house various plants. Whether they are placed around the home or in a garden, plant cubbies can be decorated with paint to match any decor.
Instructions
1. Set up a tarp in the area you wish to do your painting, in order to protect floors. Make sure that you choose a well ventilated area and cover any furniture with a tarp that may be nearby.
2. Paint a layer of non-toxic white primer onto your box using a 4-inch painter's brush. Allow primer to dry for three to four hours, then paint on another layer. Allow both layers to dry overnight to ensure that your primer is completely dry.
3. Purchase non-toxic, waterproof latex paint in the color of your choices from your local hardware store. Most stores offer non-toxic paint for purposes such as this, to ensure no toxins will come into contact with your plant and possibly kill it.
4. Paint your plant cubby with the base color of your choice. Allow base color to dry for a couple of hours, then continue painting on the rest of your designs. Some ideas for designs are freehand painting, using stencils or sponge painting to add texture. Allow all paint to dry overnight.
5. Spray down your plant cubby with a water-based non-toxic sealant to protect the paint job and preserve your plant cubby. Allow sealant to dry overnight.
