Gold glaze
provides a warm, rich look.
A red wall is a bold statement in a room, and you can take it even further with a gold glaze to add subtle shine and a warm glow. The gold will tone down the red while adding highlights and interest. Gold glaze over red paint takes on a slightly coppery hue, giving a Mediterranean ambiance to the room. You can treat an entire room with a gold glaze for a dramatic backdrop to furnishings, or just paint a single wall to act as the room's focal point. Use a wool or foam painting pad for a textured appearance that provides highlights for the wall.
Instructions
1. Clean the walls that will be glazed with a gentle detergent on a damp rag. Use a fresh rag with clean water to remove detergent residue.
2. Tape off all trim, light switches and electrical outlets you do not want painted. Use painter's tape, which will not strip paint from the items when removed.
3. Shake a container of gold glaze thoroughly, and then pour a small amount of it into a paint tray.
4. Dab a painting pad into the gold glaze, and use the pad to start applying the glaze at the highest point of the red wall. Work your way across the wall and then down, dabbing in small circles to blend the glaze. Do not strive for a perfectly even application, but keep the dabs of glaze close together and gently blended.
5. Step back from the wall periodically, and look for spots that are overly glazed or bare. If a spot is too heavily glazed, gently dab it with the painting pad to lighten the application. If a spot is bare, apply a light coating of glaze to that location.
6. Apply glaze in small dabs until the entire wall is covered. Let the glaze dry completely, and then remove the painter's tape.
