Fresh paint The Family Room Red-colored

Repainting a room with a new color can completely transform the space and create a whole new look. Red is a warm, bold color that will liven up your living room and create a festive atmosphere. If you can, enlist the help of friends and family members in your painting project to make the task more efficient and enjoyable.

Instructions

Paint Your Living Room

1. Consult your paint salesperson to find out whether you need to use a primer. This will depend on what kind of surface you will be painting over--if you are painting over wood or a dark-colored paint, you typically will need a primer, while if you are painting over white or light-colored paint, you probably don't.

2. Decide how much paint you need to cover your walls. Lowe's provides an easy-to-use paint calculator online, which can be found in the "Resources" section of this page.

3. Select a paint color and purchase it in the appropriate amount.

4. Prepare the room. Move furniture out of the room or into the middle of the space and cover with a tarp. Protect rugs with tarps as necessary.

5. Prepare the surface. Strip wallpaper if necessary, sand bumpy places and patch holes. Wash and dry the walls thoroughly before you begin painting.

6. Apply painter's tape to protect the ceiling or any trim while you work.

7. Pour a moderate amount of paint into a paint tray and roll the paint roller through the paint several times until it's coated evenly.

8. Put the roller to the wall and roll it up, down or at an angle until an entire area or wall is covered. Allow it to dry completely before adding another layer to create a rich, deep red.

9. Once you are finished, clean up and check your local environmental laws to learn safely dispose of leftover paint.
