When it comes to decorating, always go with your favorite themes, influences and colors, particularly if something makes you feel relaxed, refreshed or energized. Tropical or coastal decorating introduces eye-catching or relaxing colors, outdoor materials such as straw or bamboo, and your favorite elements from the beach, such as shells, into your home decor.
Decorations
Place accents all over your house for a beach and coastal influence. Find playful surfboard rugs; wicker accents--such as bed frames and mirror borders; wood and straw picture frames; tropical bedding; wall murals; stencils of pelicans, dolphins, palm trees or seashells; or even fake palm trees. Find candle holders made of coconuts or shells, and use sunny candles in such colors as aqua, yellow and bright pink. Position glass bowls or vases of shells, seaglass, seaweed or live bamboo on end tables, or as focal points on bookshelves and coffee tables.
Paint Colors
Several painting schemes are available for coastal and beach decorating. First, natural colors, such as bamboo, light brown and white, remind people of sandy beaches. Red, white and blue are classic coastal and nautical colors. Tropical paint colors include seaglass green and blue, lime, hibiscus pink, coral and pastels. Aqua, cocoa brown and bright sunshine yellow make people feel as if they were at the beach.
Furniture
Furniture accents are probably the most noticeable decor for beach and coastal decorating. Straw, wicker, wood, petrified wood and bamboo are perfect for this type of decorating. Beach cottage tables, surfboard tables and surfboard benches will provide fun seating and table options with coastal flair.
