Fresh paint Your Personal Tshirt Designs

With a little paint you can have an updated t-shirt.

T-shirts are one of the most timeless and classic items in your closet. You probably have several T-shirts in your closet that could use an update. They can be dressed up or down and are a very comfortable clothing choice. A good way to personalize an old T-shirt is to simply add a little paint. A boring old T-shirt suddenly becomes a work of art that you will be proud to wear. With a little know how you will be able to make a one-of-a-kind shirt.

Instructions

1. Brainstorm to find the perfect idea to paint on your shirt. Do you want it to be a calculated design or more of an abstract design? Think of what tools you want to use to achieve the desired image. Also, imagine how the colors will look all together. Loosely sketch your design or idea on a scrap piece of paper if necessary.

2. Gather all your supplies and set them out on the table or wherever you will be painting. Fill your spray bottle with water so it will be ready. Lay newspaper out to paint your T-shirt on; this will keep paint off the table and avoid later clean-up.

3. Prepare the T-shirt for the paint. Wash your T-shirt in the hottest wash cycle, then put it in the dryer on hot. This will ensure that the garment has been shrunk as much as it will shrink, and will avoid any shrinkage after the paint has been applied, which would cause the paint to crack. After you get the shirt out of the dryer spray the fabric lightly with water. The area that will be painted should be damp but not dripping wet. Dampening the fabric will allow the paint to better bond to the fabric.

4. Add fabric paint to the T-shirt. Use a brush, sponge, or any other item that will enhance the design you are looking to achieve. When painting, avoid using too many layers; the paint should be a nice thin coat, but you should not be able to see the color of the t-shirt through the paint though. If in doubt you should let the paint dry and, if needed, add another layer.

5. Set the fabric paint. Turn your iron to the hottest fabric setting. The paint should be completely dry before setting. The label of the paint should give an exact time but if it does not wait 24 hours to be on the safe side. To set paint simply run your iron over the painted area for a few seconds. This will make paint permanent and you can enjoying wearing your updated t-shirt!
