Creative Methods To Fresh paint Decking

Creatively-painted decks add color to a drab outdoor space.

While many deck owners occasionally treat their decks using clear water sealer, painting or staining your deck in a creative way can add new life and color to your deck and visually brighten the space.

Match/Complement House Trim

Paint either your entire deck or just the railings and skirts of your deck to match your house trim colors. For an even greater twist, paint the deck a complementary color in comparison with the house trim. For example, paint the deck railings purple if the house trim is yellow.

Complement Deck Furniture

Stain or paint the deck surface to complement your deck furniture. If you have blue deck furniture, then stain the deck using an orange stain. The deck color will not be too intense---as it is only a stain---but it will still complement the furniture.

Painted Rugs

On a clear-coat or stained deck you can paint brightly colored "rugs" underneath deck furniture. This gives an eye-popping contrast to your deck. For example, paint a diamond-patterned rug to contrast with the long straight lines of the deck boards. Use dark colors on a light deck or light colors on a dark deck, for more contrast. This could be a fun project to do with other family members.

Natural Look

Consider using a wood stain to bring out the natural beauty of your wood. If your house is white or cream, consider using a darker stain, such as redwood, to give a nice contrast. Use a pecan or natural stain to contrast with a dark blue or gray house. You can increase your creativity even more by utilizing blue, green and purple stains.
