Decorate a Pool House
When decorating and designing a pool house, it's important to remember its function and purpose. Pool houses serve as an escape from the sun for an afternoon snack or drink. Pool houses allow guests to change into their swimsuits close to the pool and use the bathroom facilities when necessary. With these thoughts in mind, consider durable, water and stain-resistant décor for decorating a pool house. Remember pool houses often double as guest rooms, so create a space where guests can feel comfortable and relax.

1. Consider durable flooring. A pool house is not the place to put carpet. Remember the wet feet that will walk in and out of the pool house for a drink, to use the bathroom or to change clothes. Think about flooring that is easy to maintain and water and stain resistant such as tile or stained concrete. Consider placing a rug in the sitting area, but make sure it can withstand the elements.
2. Select a room theme. Decide on a room theme before painting, selecting furniture or adding accents. Then select items to match the room theme. A few common room themes for pool houses include nautical themes or beach themes. Choose a theme that fits your style and taste. Consider extending the décor and decorations of your house into the pool house.
3. Paint the walls. Select a paint color matching the theme of the room. Consider a light blue or crisp white linen if following the nautical theme. Think about using the main wall in the pool house as an accent wall. Paint only this wall, or select a different color for this area. Remember, if the pool house is small, dark colors will make the area seem smaller. Light colors will make the area feel more open.
4. Choose sturdy furniture. Select furniture to match the theme of the room. For example, wicker furniture works great for a beach theme. Chances are someone wet from the pool will sit on the furniture, spill a beverage or spread sunscreen onto the furniture. Make sure covers are washable and fairly stain -resistant. Selecting lighter color fabrics will show less fading from the sun and chlorine. Think about the number of guests you may have staying and consider a pull-out sofa or futon for extra room.
5. Add accessories and accents. Adorn the walls with pictures that reflect the theme of the pool house. Consider various beaches you've visited for a beach-themed room or a large painting. Bring the outside in by adding plants. Choose green, hardy plants that are easy to maintain. Place ceramic decorations around the pool house to add color. These are resistant to the humidity and heat of a pool house. Add a candle or two to set the mood after a day by the pool.
