Cigarette smoke permeates a room and seeps into the walls. Because the walls has been saturated with the smoke, they must be painted in such a way that the smoke will be sealed off. The process of painting a room that had been smoked in is not difficult, but it does require following a series of steps exactly. This will restore the room to a state where smoking will seem to have never taken place.
Instructions
1. Go over any nicotine stains on the wall with a dry-cleaning chemical sponge. Rub the sponge against the nicotine stain until the stain is gone.
2. Wipe down the wall with a wash rag that has been saturated with rubbing alcohol.
Repeat this process two or three times with a fresh wash rag.
3. Wipe the wall using a wash rag that has been sprayed with all purpose cleaner first. Wipe down the wall from top to bottom and be sure to include the corners, molding and wall trim.
Repeat the process of washing the wall with the all purpose cleaner two or three times.
4. Apply a coat of shellac based primer/sealer stain-blocking primer to the wall with a paint brush. Let the shellac based primer/sealer dry.
Apply a second coat of shellac based primer/sealer to the wall and let it dry.
5. Paint the wall with a new coat of paint. Let the paint dry.
Paint a second coat of paint on the wall. Let the paint dry.
