Remove Paint Off Bricks
Bricks are painted for many reasons. Sometimes, people paint bricks to cover up their poor condition. It is also popular to paint bricks white, especially interior brick such as a fireplace or accent wall. However, just as many people prefer the look of natural brick. If you are one of the latter and would like to remove the paint from your bricks, then follow the steps below. Although there are quicker ways to remove paint from bricks, such as sandblasting, this method is the least likely to damage the bricks.
Instructions
1. Clean the bricks of any dirt or cobwebs with hot, soapy water and a bristle brush, then let dry completely.
2. Purchase a gel or paste paint remover. Follow the directions on the package to mix it up, then generously apply it to the bricks using a paintbrush. Dab it thickly onto the bricks.
3. Place pieces of old material over the remover. The paste will stick to the paint and the fabric. Leave the fabric on the remover long enough for the fabric to stick to the remover usually about 5 minutes. Then, gently pull the fabric off of the brick. The paint should peel off the brick when you pull off the fabric.
4. Remove the last of the paint. Once you have removed as much paint as possible using the old fabric, re-apply the remover to any leftover paint spots, and let sit for 10 minutes. Then, scrub the paint and remover with the bristle brush.
5. Rinse the bricks free of any leftover gel or paste solution, this time using cold water and no soap. Dry with a rag or let air dry.
