Do Exterior Waterproofing
Keeping up with yearly home maintenance is an essential part of being a homeowner. One of the leading causes of home damage is water and moisture. Old windows and doors are especially troublesome because they may have warped or distorted over the years, breaking the waterproof seal they once had. The purpose of waterproofing is to prevent water/moisture penetration and ultimately damage in the home.
Instructions
Waterproofing Windows & Doors
1. Locate the edge where a window or door meets the siding on your house. Notice the sealant that is already there. It may be cracked or worn. Remove old sealant with a putty knife. Be careful not to damage the siding.
2. Apply a small bead of silicone caulking to the joint where the door or window meets the siding.
3. Smooth out the bead of caulk using your index finger and let dry for 24 hours..
4. Paint the caulking to match the existing color of your house.
Roof Vents and Flashing
5. Locate the edge where a vent or metal flashing meets your roof. Notice the sealant that is already there. It may be cracked or worn. It is not necessary to remove this sealant unless there is an excessive amount or it easily pulls off.
6. Apply a generous bead of Black Jack to the joint where the vent or flashing meets your roof.
7. Smooth out the bead of Black Jack using your finger. Cover any cracks or crevices.
