If you're lucky, repainting a room or your home's exterior won't require scraping off the existing paint. But if the paint is bubbled or peeling, you'll need to remove it so the new paint goes on smoothly. The process can be time-consuming, but the results are well worth it because the new paint job will look clean and fresh. The key to scraping off an old paint job is to make sure you get it all off.
Instructions
1. Scrape paint off one section of the wall you start on. It's best to scrape paint in segments to make sure the entire surface gets covered.
2. Run the scraper off the painted surface by running the scraping tool in every direction over the paint. This will help loosen more paint so it is all easily removed.
3. Scrape paint from the wall section by section until the entire surface is complete.
4. Go over the walls that have been scraped with a sander -- either a power sander or by hand with sandpaper -- to make sure all the paint is removed.
5. Clean up the paint droppings with either a vacuum or broom.
