Fresh paint Auto Gas Tanks

Many different types of cars' gas tanks may be painted.

Automotive gas tanks can endure serious wear throughout their use. Their position beneath the vehicle leaves them vulnerable to scrapes and dings from all sorts of road debris. When the damage becomes too much and the paint is severely damaged, or if the tank is bare and you'd like a finish to match the rest of the undercarriage, it's time to paint. An automobile gas tank may be painted by following some basic automotive safety guidelines and using the right technique.

Instructions

1. Lift the right-rear wheel of the vehicle with an automotive jack.

2. Place an automotive jack beneath the right-rear wheel's suspension arm.

3. Lower the vehicle onto the automotive jack. Repeat this process with the left-rear wheel so the vehicle's rear end is lifted.

4. Put on safety glasses and a respirator with working seals and fresh filters.

5. Scrape any rust off the gas tank with a stiff wire bristle brush.

6. Spray off any rust debris from the gas tank with a spray hose.

7. Wipe any remaining water and rust debris with a clean rag.

8. Spray the surface of the gas tank with a spray-on metal primer. Allow the primer to dry fully according to manufacturer instructions.

9. Spray the gas tank with a coat of spray-on automotive paint. Allow the paint to dry according to manufacturer instructions and spray the tank with a second coat of paint.

10. Raise the vehicle's left-rear wheel with the automotive jack and slide the jack stand out from under the vehicle.

11. Lower the vehicle's left-rear wheel to the ground and repeat this process with the vehicle's right-rear tire.
