Fresh paint Vintage Motorcycles

Vintage motorcycles can be painted any number of colors.

Painting a vintage motorcycle sounds more complicated than it is. Time and patience -- and taking the time to do the job right -- make for a rewarding project. Vintage motorcycles can be painted many different colors and patterns.

Instructions

1. Wash the motorcycle thoroughly with soap and water. Scrub the entire bike to remove grease and grime. Allow it sufficient time to dry. Remove any decals, emblems or stickers.

2. Shake and mix the paint, according to the manufacturer's instructions. Fill the paint gun and begin to spray the motorcycle. Apply the paint with light coats. Allow the first coat to dry (about 30 to 45 minutes) to dry. Next, spray some paint thinner before applying a second coat, then spray on the second coat in the same manner. Fill the paint gun as necessary. Wait another 30 to 45 minutes before spraying the third and final coat.

3. Allow the paint to dry for about two hours. Then, remove any drips with 600-grit sandpaper. Apply four to five clear coats of paint in the same manner as above, allowing drying time of 30 to 45 minutes between coats. No thinner is needed for this step. Wait six hours and then sand again with 600-grit sandpaper.

4. Spray two more coats of clear paint as above. Allow the finish to harden for three to four days. Cut 1500-grit sandpaper with scissors into four-inch-square pieces. Wet the sandpaper with dish soap and lukewarm water. Sand the motorcycle in the same way as you did in the previous step. Use caution around the edges and be deliberate during this process.

5. Smear a coat of swirl remover over the entire motorcycle and polish with the foam pad buffer at 1500 RPM in slow, circular motions. Be careful not to push too hard or the paint will burn. Polish the entire area until the compound starts to disappear. Make sure the pad is rotating away from edges. Wash the motorcycle with water to make it shine.
